Speaker: Alessandro C. Della Morte - Satin Rose Hospital project in Nepal

Thursday, 22. November 2018 - 14:00

Alessandro C. Della Morte, from the Rotary Club of Marbella,  will give a presentation on the evolution of Monsalvat for Asia - the Satin Rose Hospital project in Nepal to build bathrooms for ill children; to which RCMG recently contributed €2,000.

Satin Rose is a women's menstrual hygiene programme developed by Mosalvat, a project founded by a Rotarian from RC Marbella.  www.monsalvatforasia.org

The goal of the project is to make sure girls attend and finish school.  In traditional Nepal menstruation is considered a taboo and girls are banished from areas of the house and the community. Some are even left in the animal sheds. The project aims to inform and educate, to reduce the stigma.  Apart from the need to change attitudes to menstruation, girls and women are held back by lack of hygenic sanitary care and places to wash and change. So during their period, girls don't attend school and eventually can drop out altogether, reducing their life options drastically.
