Rotary District Assembly 2203, 5th and 6th June 2020     by Mark Shurey

This year the Rotary District Assembly was held online for the first time due to the Covid-19 crisis.
Around 240 Presidents and delegates from all clubs in the district attended via Zoom conference to the assembly in the city of Murcia.

The assembly opened on Friday evening with a welcome from the district Governor and the Mayor of Murcia. There followed a presentation of the District team. The conference experienced some fairly big technical problems with the audio that prevented some speakers from delivering their messages.

On Saturday morning the assembly continued with technical problems resolved. Ricardo Molina outlined his vision for Rotary and the District as Governor. He spoke of Rotary for the 21st century. He spoke of modernisation and innovation in the clubs, the need to involve youth for the future and the need to prioritise environmental issues as much as humanitarian issues.
He spoke with great passion and charisma. “now is the moment for Rotarians to become revolutionaries”.

A presentation of the District budget was made by Matilde Lafuente. This needs to be voted on by the clubs in the District. She admitted that the budget was made before the Covid-19 crisis and may need revision.
There followed a video presentation of the RI convention in Taipei, China 2021. District Governor Arturo Alargon closed the assembly by ringing the bell.
