Meeting of 19th January 2012

Speaker: Alicia Jimenez Gomez accompanied by Luis Gámez Lomeña.

David Eweis interpreted.

Alicia heads the Marbella Town Delegation of Health and Consumerism. She explained that this delegation is divided into 4 areas:- Health; Animal Health; Pest Control; Consumer Protection.

Health inspects sanitary health in restaurants and checks that the potable water supplies from the 3 local water companies and privately owned wells are consumable. This department also assists associations caring for needy and handicapped people.

Animal Health controls dead and abandoned animals in the streets. They work closely with AAA and have provided land on which AAA cares for abandoned animals. A project is now running in local schools to raise children’s knowledge about animal care.

Pest Control prevents pests breeding by arranging street cleaning and such work as treatment of municipally owned pine trees for processionary caterpillars.

Consumer Protection requires all establishments to have a Complaints Book in which the pages are numbered to prevent alterations and deletions.

Many questions were asked and, in particular, Einar asked which local charitable association most needed help. Alicia said that they all need help because much financing from the Junta de Andalucia has stopped but probably Valores, which cares for disabled people, is most in need now.
