Breaking the Guinness World Record for Charity

Breaking the Guinness World Record for Charity

On 20th October 2018, we played the biggest game of Beetle in the world - EVER*!!   We needed to beat the existing (GWR-assessed) world record of 252 people; and we achieved OVER 300!!!
Funds raised (just under €10,000) were donated to AFA Alzheimer's charity and other good causes.

Our club raises thousands of euros every year for good causes - local and international charities.  Our last major fundraiser, on 20th October, was a gargantuan effort - to achieve a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the largest number of people to take part in a Beetle Drive!
In spite of the horrific weather, more than 300 people turned up to participate in the Guinness World Records Attempt with a Beetle Game.  The event was compered by Shane O'Shea of Project Music Management and Nicole King of Marbella Now TV.
There was a terrific atmosphere and everyone had a lot of fun. The Hogan Stand provided the food and drinks including Guinness, and many of the charities we support were represented.   Gabrielle Ange organised an Art Corner with many talented artists displaying their impressive works.   We were also entertained by the Choir Andaluz and Students from the Colegio Internacional Torrequebrada. The Academia de Maquillage Profesional de Marbella was there to do face painting.
Our grateful thanks go to our main sponsor, Spence Clarke & Co, as well as Ibex Insurance and EFPG Raine-International.

We also thank the many other contributors who made the event so special.

We raised a net amount of almost 10,000 Euros, part of which will enable AFA Alzheimers to purchase the NeuronUp system that helps patients with their cognitive rehabilitation.
Thanks also go to Sr Antonio Flores of Lawbird Solicitors and by Amin Khello of Pelayo Abogados, who witnessed the games on behalf of Guinness World Records. In addition, we had 6 Stewards who helped advise and control the players.

The atmosphere of the event is captured in this video:

The winner of the magnificent Golden Beetle, which was generously donated by Ralph Brenck of Mara Collection, together with a voucher from El Cortes Ingles of 300 Euros, was 12 year-old Niels Nielsen.
